@GAmom2020 I know it’s not easy. My son is OOS and didn’t get it . He’s accepted to the Lewis Honors college.
33 ACT, 4.0 unweighted, class rank 1 of 412, over 200 hours community service, Varsity wrestling Captain. We did receive approx 90k in scholarships, but my son will probably attend UW-Madison instead. With the presidential he would have attended KY.
Also accepted and considering GA, Clemson, Florida and Alabama. Alabama is the most affordable, Madison the best business school for the cost ((We are in WI)
Good Luck!
@GAmom2020 - 2,200 candidates for the full ride scholarships. 125 were chosen. Sounds like the application fee was a gamble for a lot of high achievers.
I know this thread is relatively old but I figured I’d comment to answer some questions that I’ve seen because I had a lot of questions that were hard to answer when I was trying to figure out whether or not I’d come to UK.
Current student here who received presidential. First, this year’s honors acceptances were significantly higher than years past. Second, state funding is constantly getting cut so scholarships are getting harder for the University to fund. Additionally, I interviewed for the Singletary scholarship (didn’t receive) and I can confidently say that I know many OOS students who have both the presidential and the singletary. I would say that if you didn’t recieve the scholarships, then it was likely due to your honors essays or your interview.
Lastly, UK is required to give presidential scholarships to students who go through the “Governor’s Scholars Program” within Kentucky. As such, scholarship numbers do likely vary year to year depending on how many GSP students actually attend UK.
Hey so j like above kinda late but I’m oos with a 32 and I got the singletary/Patterson bc of National merit so I’m going next year yay but I didn’t get into the honors college:/ still kinda confused ab that but o well
Just curious where you got the stats, thanks
I just checked into this thread again. I think UK is misleading with the Presidential and any full-ride scholarships for OOS. My son far exceeded the thresholds required and in fact was offered similar scholarships at much more highly regarded state flagships. He will attend another state flagship on a generous scholarship that brought his COA in-line with our state flagship.
If he would have received the Presidential, he would have attended UK, so we were quite surprised when he didn’t get it. I called their scholarship office and they told me there were only 25 or so awarded. Of course, many are active here as they usually are.
I’m leaving this for future people who read this. Don’t expect it because of your grades. I hope you are awarded the scholarship, but it definitely looks like they give less than it seems.
