Prestigous Schools That Don't Dent Your Pocket

I noticed that a lot of schools people consider really good also cost a fortune - there have to be some great schools that don't put me in debt for years...

Care to name a few?

UCBerkeley, UCLA, ...mmm UVA... blah blah. some of the state schools

But hey if youre OOS - big $$$$$$$$$

Yep, UCB or UCLA (if you live CA) :)

Rice is relatively cheap compared to ivies and the like

Based on my screen name, I have to add McGill in Montreal, the "Harvard of Canada." My d. as an international student pays the highest undergraduate tuition. It was just over $5000 first semester, even with the US dollar trading at a very low level with Canadian ($1.16). Living expenses are also very reasonable in Montreal. Canadian students from outside Quebec pay about $3000 US per year, Quebecers pay under $2000 per year.

No wonder many American students are looking north of the border and making admission to Canadian colleges much harder. BTW, admission to Canadian colleges generally is all quantitatively based, no ec's, essays or letters of recommendation.

Olin and Cooper Union.

Yea, Cooper Union doesn't charge tuition i think

But the cost of living's very high in NY, and even with no tuition, CU students would still pay housing and the like.

any public school in your state....if you live in VA, CA, NC, or MI you're set...

on another note...Hoo kicked FSU's @$$ on Saturday? :)

I second Rice University.

Univ of Toronto, Univ of Pittsburgh, UVA, UMaryland, UNC, Rutgers

Cooper Union, Webb Institute (for the two or so majors they offer :)), and Olin, West Point, etc.

Well if you are gonna list Rice then you should also list WUSTL & EMORY & VANDY.......top students are bought to these schools regularly.

Washu?? You're crazy, that's like almost 45,000 a year.

Merit Money???

Berea. Free tuition for everyone accepted. But it's hard to get in, and yield is as high as Harvard's.

Rice is way cheaper to start out with than Wash U and others you listed. Any merit or need based aid you would get would be there at Rice too, making it cheaper still. A lot of people I know here, including myself, ended up choosing Rice over schools like Wash U and NW because of price differences.

Rice is relatively cheaper, and I think is on par with NW and Wash. Cooper Union from what I hear is tough to get into. West Point the same. Wash U does have scholarship money, but it's tough to get it as it's very competitive. Things might change once you get on campus though, I wouldn't know.
