Pretty Basic Question

For most schools, do you usually apply to transfer during the fall of your SECOND year, or the fall of your THIRD year??

I'm confused because a lot of the schools say that you have to have a certain amount of units completed by the time you transfer. So does that mean that you apply, and then keep them updated until you finish all those units?

If in fact you do apply during fall of your SECOND year, then do they take into consideration the work that you do while finishing out that second year?

i think second..cuz then u start third year so i guess u apply fall of second year

bump (10 characters)

You can apply the 2nd or 3rd (or more) fall for a junior level transfer. I applied the second fall.

Most schools will have you update them at the start of the second spring semester with your progress. Then submit a final transcript before you transfer.

The year before you transfer. So if you want to transfer in Fall of 07, you'd apply November of 06!

some people I know have been in community college for 4-5 years...I don't think they are going to make it

So you can apply both times? Fall of second year AND fall of third year? I'm assuming that applying fall of second year would place a much heavier emphasis on your first year grades and applying fall of third year would split the emphasis on both years?

If you apply in Fall year 2 then most schools won't look at your very last semester/quarter grades in deciding admission. They'll look at your earlier grades and then conditionally accept you provided that your final grades aren't a mess.

It doesn't really matter which year you apply if you're planning on doing well every semester/quarter, but I guess if you had horrible grades in your first year and wanted to drag it out like you got tons of good grades thereafter then applying later would be advantageous.

Another question that I'm confused about, I keep hearing "sophomore transfers" being posted.

So are sophomore transfers, transfers who applied during the fall of their FRESHMAN year? As in, they went to a college and then applied to another school 2 months after they started?

Sophomore Transfer - Apply in 1st year of college (only 1 semester/quarter completed probably)

Junior Transfer - Apply in 2nd year of college (1 yr and maybe 1 semester/quarter completed probably)

Try not to apply in your third year, when you ARE a junior (at your current school) to another school AS a junior.
This is b/c once a school accepts you, you will begin the following fall at that school, so you will be a senior at your school but a junior at the new school. A lot of schools require you stay 2 years at their campus, so you'll be graduating in 5 years total (if you apply during your 3rd year).

They didn't necessarily apply two months after they started - transfer applications for a lot of schools are due between april and june, or even later. I finished one semester at my school before I decided I wanted to transfer, so I'm applying now and hopefully will start somewhere else next fall.
