<p>Anyone else do the Southwestern U Sr. Preview Day on Saturday?<br>

<p>I'm an alumna of Southwestern, and I'd like to hear your opinions. My daughter is considering SU and one of her friends is very interested in attending.</p>
<p>Southwestern is still on my daughter's list of LAC's after the preview day, but not as high as it once was. Slightly put off by the number of kids that leave for the weekend and high concentration of TX students. Do you have further insight as to the "suitcase campus" perception? Other than that, an excellent presentation, and from what I understand, an excellent school.
She's also looking at Austin College and Trinity in-state. Others are out of state, obviously.</p>
<p>I can really only speak to what it was like 20 years ago. The campus was never empty on weekends! Sure, some did go home for the weekend (since SU is in the middle of Texas, it can be convenient, depending on the hometown), but the majority stayed on campus. Especially since Austin is so close for entertainment. I think SU attracts a large number of Texas students precisely because it is in the middle of Texas. Out-of-state students were viewed as "exotic" - in a good way.</p>
<p>Thanks for the information - I'll pass it along. A friend had done an overnight there this past spring and noticed then that there were a lot of kids gone from campus - more so than she'd observed on Friday when classes were in session. Staff members seem to have acknowledge the problem as their student life group has been stepped up with addl activities. My daughter would be one of the ones to stay there on most weekends - we're in N TX, so coming home is possible, but not as easy as it is for CenTex kids.</p>
