Princeton Chances? RD

Just saying. Princeton pools Canadian applicants together with East Coast American applicants, so being international shouldn’t really be a problem.

Pretty good grades and EC’s, but you’re an international, which hurts you a bit. If you had more national/international achievements, then you would have a better shot. Princeton’s going to be a high reach for you. And TRUFFLIEPUFF is right, it doesn’t matter if you’re black or not, you’re still an international.

Just saying I do have one National Award. I received a Certificate of Distinction for the Pascal Math Contest in 2007.

Not really super-significant but it is something to throw on my app.

@TheDude: There are no such quotas on internationals. The only top tier school that does have a quota is MIT (not sure if there are others). But if you read any Ivy league university’s FAQ page, you’ll see that they explicitly say that they do not set quotas.

@lobzz. Well that’s good news lol.

@Nosike

I don’t mean to put you down, but… that certificate you mentioned is awarded to everyone who scored in the Top 25% among all test takers. 34017 students wrote the Pascal Contest that year, which means more than 8000 people in the country received that certificate. Admittedly, it’s a National award, but chances are it won’t carry much weight at Princeton.

Pascal Contest National Winner '07

^^^ I’m aware of that, that’s why I said it was nothing significant. I’m still putting it on my application though.

The national effective speaking contest is more significant. It’s for Air Cadets across Canada from ages 12-19, I got Bronze at age 14.

African-Americans are considered URMS, due to the history of black oppression in the US. Black internationals are considered internationals, and there are plenty of highly qualified ones with unique stories from African countries and Europe.

You will need very high SAT I and IIs (750 +) as your GPA is unimpressive for Princeton.

^ fauve, if that were really true you wouldn’t hear about that professor at Harvard lamenting on how such a big bulk of the black kids there are internationals and how the AA system isn’t being used the right way (whatever that really means).

^ fauve, if that were really true you wouldn’t hear about that professor at Harvard lamenting on how such a big bulk of the black kids there are internationals and how the AA system isn’t being used the right way (whatever that really means). You are probably still right to an extent but it’s hard to buy that he isn’t benefiting at all from his race.

Oh, I agree with you- internationals who are black benefit from their race. And I agree a big bulk of the Harvard blacks are internationals- and that their exotic stories, academic stats, and geographical diversity help them gain admission. That’s why I think Nosike needs high scores to be competitve- his competition are internationals- both black and white, not American blacks.

Yeah turns out my GPA actually correlates to a 4.0 UW. I just need to get that 2300+ SAT and I think stats-wise I’m golden.
