Princeton Class of 2020 EA Chances

@Hiiamint Would you suggest that I retake the ACT then? I got a 29 the first time (not much prep), and a 32 the second time (one week worth of prep beforehand). If I study all summer, do you think my chances of a 34 or 35 will increase tremendously? Thanks!

@Hiiamint Also, to answer your question about my school, about one person gets sent to HYPSM from my school a year. This year, we most notably had a kid get into Harvard!

Anyways, my essay topic is not about my Somali background (though that was what my first draft was about). Instead, it is about a hobby I don’t mention anywhere else in my application and how I used it to open up my global perspective as a student. I think it best describes me as a person!

I feel that you might as well try to study for the act again and take it in September. I would suggest getting the Red book if you have not already, as it has 5 practice tests, with explanations for all the answers.

@jman457 Thanks pal! Yup, I’ll definitely be taking the September one. Especially now that I realized that a 32 isn’t that good of a score.

Jeez, what school do you go to? I couldn’t take that many classes if I tried! Your test scores are a little low but I think your circumstances make up for it. I think you have as good of a chance as anyone else, which still isn’t that great. Either way you’ll end up at a great school. Congrats!

A 32 is actually a great score, and is in the 31-35 range for accepted students, though being on the upper end of the range will definatly help.

@NN2016 Of course! It’d be my pleasure.

@jman457 Oh I didn’t realize that! A lot of people have told me that the lower end of the range (25%) is reserved for recruited athletes and legacy students. I’ll try my best to get in without riding on my URM status for a score boost.

Can someone please chance me based on my standardized tests and some additional academic info. Will include extracurricular activities and awards later.
I am an international student, African to be precise.

SAT 1: 2190 -M:730, CR: 690 W: 770
SAT 2; Math level 2: 800 ,Physics 720
GPA. 3.8 U.W
Class rank top 10% out of 42 students
Intended Major: Architecture (1st choice), Mechanical Engineering ( 2nd choice)

My second choice school is Columbia still having a hard time deciding between the two

I think you’d get a better response in your own thread, but since you’re here - all I can say is idk much about international admissions. Your chances are good, but then again like 2% of applicants are admitted internationally I think. @WizDexter99

Hey I was wondering how your college admissions journey has been going.

@jman457 I’ll update this thread on the eve of December 15, when my first decisions come out. So far I’ve applied to all my early schools and a few regular decisions schools

You applying to ED to Princeton I’m guessing?

@jman457 Yeah! It’s actually just Single Choice Early Action lol

@Princetonian2020 Sorry if this is an odd question, but what is your intended major?

Good luck on the admissions process!

@azwu331 Thank you! I’m thinking of Molecular Biology or Biochemistry.

Did you get in?

@alundari I am not quite certain that you know what you are talking about; Obama went to Columbia (transfered from Occidental) and then went to Havard Law School–which does not require an ACT but a LSAT. Further, I am somewhat certain the ACT had a different scoring system 35 years ago.

@jman457 Yeah, I did! Beyond looking forward to attending Princeton (unless I get a more attractive offer from another school :stuck_out_tongue: )

I got deferred
