Well, this is kind of silly isn't it. I'm a Princeton student so I was just trying to be informative here. I think people can glean a lot from viewbooks, statistics, USNWR, and overzealous supporters who aren't really much help to a person deciding to make such an important commitment. Besides, every student has different academic needs and aspirations, among other things, so its more helpful if people bring up information that is useful in making a decision, rather than going back and forth and spurting impressions.

Just a thought.

Personally I would choose Yale, based on a more diverse community, less pretentious and preppy atmosphere.

Ok heres something productive: Neither offers a journalism major. The closest thing you could major in would probably be English. However, Princeton does have the Princeton Writing Program, which has a great reputation:
Princeton Writing Program

And they offer courses in journalism.

The Princeton Writing Program is mainly the body of faculty that teaches and manages the mandatory writing seminars for freshmen, and runs the Princeton Writing Center. It does offer some supplementary courses but its not much more than that.

Hahahha tokyorevelation you are right, but I think it is a humorous point that chicagoboy points out... that neither have a journalism major...
I think in that case, regardless of how "close" either school comes, it does not matter. Choose the one you feel the most right with.
Like I said, Yale gets my vote.

Princeton has the writing program, and Yale has the Yale Journalism Initiative.

Oh snap!! Yale definitely now lol

note that the "Yale journalism initiative" only offers 1 additional course in the english dept. It does offer some nice career counseling, but princeton's career counseling might not be too shabby.

in the end, most people, whether largely biased or not, will agree that you should visit both. princeton is pretty suburban, and new haven is, well, get a wallet chain. ;)

speaking of bias....
New Haven is NOT the city it was a decade ago. I have friends who go to Yale now who say it is hilarious that people still think it is such a ghetto. It's just a city, like any other.
Whatever. Visit. Decide. Let's end this thread -_-

Ugh why has this become a thread for mutual trashing of schools that will both provide academic and extracurricular opportunities in journalism and related fields. Time for this thread to end.

I would say go to Yale. From what I know (which isn't that much), I constantly hear about Yale's Daily newspaper and I have also heard good things about Yale's English department. while I'm sure that Princeton has just as an amazing program, Yale seems like the place to be for writers. Just ask Rory. :D

08seniors08... haha i was actually kind of referring to myself as a joke there when i said "people biased or not"...

bottomline, PRINCETON. people like google, not bush.

Honestly...prestige shouldn't even be a factor anymore. Number 1 as opposed to number 2? (MAYBE)...kind of ridiculous

PosterX! Where are you? Come add some spice to this thread!

I would go with Yale over Princeton.
