I think I saw one Princeton student on here post his/her favorites list and it had explanations. Perhaps it might show thoroughness to give explanations. My class has 120 students, and about 15 are applying EA. I don’t think any of them are giving explanations, so I might want to do that.

I don’t know if the Common App will allow you the space to provide explanations.

Wait…so do you have to give an explanation for these favorite things?

Hey everyone. This is my first post on cc. I am an international applicant and i am finding that question a bit confusing too. Does it have to be a song? My favorite song is in Swahili and sung by a very popular band in Kenya but i doubt that the people who will be reading my application know the song. Would this impact negatively on my application?

I’d encourage you to go back and read the rest of this thread…your question about it being a song has already been answered! And no - it doesn’t matter if the ad com knows the song or not. Diversity is not an issue with admissions.

So are you guys writing an explanation for the favorite questions or not? I have space to do so, but it does not give directions to write it out thoroughly, so I don’t want it to look like I as not following directions.

It doesn’t ask you to explain

@pde54003 @Boobyhatch I was wondering if it would be okay to put something that is in another language. It is my native language (an Indian language), but I really connect to it, more that anything else that I have listened to in English.

I’m not an expert, but I was accepted in the early round, so I hoped I could be of some help! I didn’t write any explanations for any of the short questions (for this one, I just wrote the title of an album!). However, I have seen people do both, so I think you could go either way. @Shuu17 and @jmilovecandy I don’t think that’d be a problem at all!

Yeah… @whatimasenior is right. You can go either way. I was also admitted EA and I gave reasons for all my choices. My favorite recording was a ted talk. So, it really depends on you.
