So I want to go into finance. Which university would be the best in terms of academics and career placement. The thing I’m trying to balance is the difficulty of Princeton and Columbia versus their strength and uniqueness in terms of the ORFE program with Yale’s strong education and somewhat easier university (grades wise). I’ll do econ at yale and ORFE at Princeton, Columbia.
Thanks!
Where do people get these silly ideas that Yale will be easier to get higher grades compared to peer institutions? The data/evidence is pretty flimsy… Oh I’m sure you could dig up some obscure stat that says the average GPA is some 0.1 points higher at Yale compared to, say, Columbia… but that average across a whole university is meaningless without factoring in the different ratios of different majors… and even if there was a statistically slight difference, it has no bearing on any particular individual student.
Please, let’s pretend that “critical thinking skills” matters.
@harvardandberkeley sorry my post was unclear. I meant the difficulty of princeton vs yale not columbia vs yale
All of them are amazing places. Go with the place you like the best and can afford the most.
Congratulations! You have three amazing options.
As a Princeton alumna and the mother of two students who have attended the school, I am biased towards Princeton. I think that the school offers an incredible education focused on the undergraduate, with the possibility of developing close relationships with your professors from day one. Every department in Princeton is strong and the ORFE program is one of the best in the country. If you’re interested in “feeder” schools to Wall Street, the wall street oasis list came out recently, and Princeton was ranked 6th, Columbia 9th and Yale 28th.
And in terms of your statement about grades, grade deflation has been eliminated at Princeton and I wouldn’t exactly say that Yale is a walk in the park. Moreover, at Yale, you have to take 36 credits to graduate, which is higher than Princeton’s 31 credits, which might impact grades.
However, ultimately your choice might come down to feel - Yale and Columbia are urban, while Princeton is a beautiful campus about an hour or so from both Philly and NYC. If possible, you need to visit, to decide what environment suits you best.
I would agree with @midatlmom Especially for finance. Also could you link me with that Wall Street ranking list? I’m having trouble finding it
Google “top wall street feeder schools” and look at the first story.
