Any advice on whether to bring an a black inkjet printer or a color printer? Would we use color a lot? Thanks. :-)

i bought a black one only just because it's faster than color...and i don't think much color is needed...in the case it is, there's always computer labs right? ^^

Haha true. Thanks :D

Do they have black inkjets these days??

If you get a printer that has separate black and color cartridges) most of them) and has a driver that lets you set "use black ink only" (only some of them), then you effectively have a black ink capable printer to save on ink but color available when you want it. The cheapest HP ($99) I tried a couple of years ago didn't have the option in its driver and I returned it and got the next one up which did have the option. the epson I have has the option and has separate color cartridges (one for each color) as well which ends up saving on ink. These printer companies make all their money off of ink and paper so it's good to save when you can.

You don't need to regularly print any documents in color unless you're a Design/Media Arts major or putting up flyers on Bruin Walk. One color ink cartridge will probably last you for your entire college career -- this isn't high school, where flashy color schemes and pictures will earn you extra credit on your assignments...

ive gone through like 2 or 3 blacks, and still have the original color one in my printer. :p

if you want cheaper cartidges, staples remanufactured cartridges get my thumbs up. best reman ones i've tried, doesnt leak and very close to OEM quality. and dont forget they give you $3 coupons for each of your old cartridges (all brands, types, original or reman. are all accepted). :)

Last year I would go, on average, through 3 blacks over the course of a quarter. I used up 1 color cartidge last year, but to be fair, I'm not sure how much ink I started the year with on it.

Most of you will not use as much ink as I do. What really eats it up is the fact I type my notes and print them out daily... Plus I often find printing long articles.
