What would be better for retaining information? Writing on printed PowerPoints or writing the information down then taking notes in the notebook you wrote in?

Everyone learns a little bit differently to say the least, but in my opinion, I tend to remember stuff better if I write it down in a notebook for my own personal notes. The PowerPoint slides are typically 4-6 to a page and it’s somewhat difficult to write any notes at all on PowerPoint slides. Using colored pens also helps to make dull black-and-white notes sheets more appealing.

OMG…I’m going to call the EPA on you…printing all those stuff and destroying our Forrest…LOL…
Relax… like cameraphone said, do whatever makes you study and retain the information in a “SMARTER WAY”…
Best of luck to you…

Try different things out and see what works for you. I’m a visual learner, so having all of the information in the same place (on the slides) is useful for me. But I have discovered that instead of printing the slides, I have a better time of it if I make a PDF of the slides and can write/draw on them on my tablet. Saves paper, don’t have to worry about tiny print-outs, and I don’t lose info when it all gets printed in black and white. Also searchable on the computer.

I don’t have any links, but it’s generally believed that writing your own notes in pen helps you remember better. However, what you can do is print slideshows before class and take notes on the side as the class goes on.

You can be successful with either method. It’s going to matter more how you study it than how you take notes.

Printing PowerPoints never worked for me, so I’m going to say that you’re going to have to try them both out to see what works best for you.
