Priority Waiting List- Wrong Dates

A basic timeline:
April 11th- submit waiting list reply form
May 1st- General Candidate's Reply Date
May 6th- they let you know about their decision, apparently with enough time before the general candidate's reply date.
June 1st- regular waiting list admission decision date.

Anyone notice a rather glaring issue with the timeline they provided?
If I wanted to protect myself and secure a place at another university, I would have to then give up my deposit there later on if I found out I got in.

That’s how all waitlists work…

A lost deposit is the cost of being on any wait list. There is a cost to everything.

Oh. Well, thanks! I had never even considered the possibility of a wait list, so I guess that never occurred to me.

Just make sure you do deposit at another university by May 1 as most waitlists are long shots…there is no way for a school to know if they will need to go to their waitlist to fill their freshman class until after the May 1 replies from regular admits.

If I choose to be on the priority waiting list, is it binding?

Also, the website says 'We encourage all students to communicate continued interest in Carnegie Mellon in the form of a written statement. This statement cannot be edited at a later date and must be submitted at the time of your Waiting List Reply Form submission." Do we submit this letter in a separate email to admissions?

So if I get admitted through PWL and then I pay the deposit, can I still decide not to go?

You can always decide not to go…no deposit or waitlist is binding…just don’t double deposit…that’s not a good thing…

S was PWL’ed at SCS, and submitted the Waiting List Reply Form, but he forgot to include a written statement. Does anyone know if there is an email address that he can send his written statement to? Any AO who is managing WL at SCS?

Thanks.

You can still submit the writing. Just log on, save changes, and then you will see the option. You can do anything until April 11 or something.

nvm
