Private messaging

I see one message on my profile from another CC person, the subject is dance attire, so not much to see. This is pretty random as the message to me was from months and months ago. I would imagine though that some of my message responses to other CCers are viewable on their profile.

I was going to go delete my inbox of PMs. Except I find that I can’t figure out how to do it! Any ideas?

I emailed the admin and this was the response: “Please take note that the messages you see on members’ profiles ARE NOT private messages. They are visitor messages, which have always been visible on profiles. We can delete the visitor messages off members’ profiles at their request.” I don’t know the difference between “visitor messages” and “private messages,” but from what they said it looks like they can’t be removed except by CC admin.

Well they told someone else that, but she went back and found them in her PM’s.

The ones I saw looked like private messages, not the type of message someone would leave on a public part of the site.

Has anyone else asked them about it? I don’t see any on my own wall, and hated to click on anyone else to see if they have messages I shouldn’t be seeing… But really don’t like the idea of supposedly private messages not being private!

Speaking for my account… The only message that shows when you click on my name is indeed a visitor message. I have many more PM’s in my inbox. I think what you are seeing is people who either didn’t know how to do a PM vs Visitor Message, or those who don’t have enough posts yet to PM. I know that the visitor message that was left for me, I continued in a PM, to keep it off my “wall”.

Pure luck I came across this, since no one in our house is pursuing musical theatre.

I too have come across what appears to be private messages under people’s names and “Activity.” They often have an arrow on the them. Personal in nature and I felt awkward finding them.

I have shown the tech savvy people in my life examples, and they believe it’s a bad implementation on the last CC upgrade. The ethical thing for CC to do is to require their computer support to remove all PMs made public. I don’t quite buy this “visitor message” explanation, but even if true, better to remove those too if they cannot be differentiated from the PMs.
