On another thread someone mentioned that Private Messages are no longer private, because if you click on anyone's name you can see their private messages. I don't know if this is true, as what I see here on my end might be different than what someone else sees. But, I feel this is a huge issue if it is true. Many times I have used the Messaging to eliminate lots of information that was more specific to one individual than for general public, but also there are times I certainly meant the message to not be made public. I am seeing that indeed when I click on a name, some of the private messages sent to them by others are showing up for me to read. This is meant as a query to see if others are finding this as well as a warning if it is true our messages to someone are no longer private.

I don’t think those are PMs–I think they are posts to the person’s profile. I’ve gotten plenty of PMs, and they don’t show up on my profile.

Exactly - I’m pretty sure those are posts when someone clicks on the name, instead of on the little envelope icon. I checked out my own and found a couple of messages from a few years ago.

Yes, I was actually asking @Mezzo’sMama about this issue the other day because I wanted to PM her about a teacher. When I clicked on some icons I saw conversations that included phone numbers which made me worry that my messages to her were not private. Guess we need to be careful where we are posting the messages. @Clarimom, I just clicked on your icon and I don’t see any messages.

@Clarimom, all PMs are and have always been private. What happens is that visitor messages are often mistaken for PMs, as they both look more or less the same. However, while visitor messages appear on a user’s activity wall, PMs only appear in the inbox. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your responses, and good to know! I have clicked on several other people’s names and find messages there…so those must be when people clicked on names instead of the envelope. (Although some are from long ago, when we didn’t have this new format, which also concerned me). I will relax now. :)
