Private School Rankings Fall Because of Endowment Shrinkage

As you know US News bases its rankings HEAVILY on endowment.

Well it seems as though many private schools endowments shrank quite a bit during this financial crisis.

So the heavier hit schools in endowments should be ranked lower now.

Seems as though federal cash flow is more dependable than stock market cash flow.

I predict Berkeley should hit top 5 in rankings financially. If not already academically.

According to this blog posting at US News: [Do Endowments Have an Impact on a College?s Ranking? - Morse Code: Inside the College Rankings (usnews.com)](http://www.usnews.com/blogs/college-rankings-blog/2010/01/29/do-endowments-have-an-impact-on-a-colleges-ranking.html)
“college endowments are not used in the rankings at all”.

Tupac Shakur,

Berkley may not go up in rankings. In fact they may go down if what you are stating is true. Yo see, UC Berkley was hit even harder being in the UC system with state cuts. The UC systems are taking a beating over here.

At least with endowment money, you can make it up over time as things recover. With direct cuts like the UC is facing, it hits them usually immediately and the negative effects are felt quickly with no recovery time.

I will say that although they say they don’t look at endowment in ranking, there is a strong correlation btwn. well endowed schools and their rankings. This is probably due to the fact that they have a lot of money for great professors, buildings, technology etc…

Sorry, but I do not “know” that…
