Problems with leadership

I'm putting this here because it affects college admission. My school is fairly new (4th year open), and we have few teachers. Each year, teachers are given more responsibilities, so they have to drop clubs. For example, I was spanish club president, but the teacher in charge had to tutor freshmen in Spanish. So, we had to get rid of the club. Then, whenever I joined a club, it would be gone literally right before we officially elect officials. For example, BuildOn lasted 3 weeks, and we were supposed to elect officials 4 weeks in. Whenever I run, I always lose to seniors because they are closer to college, and need those positions for college apps. Then, this year, those clubs got cancelled. What do I do? I barely have leadership, and it looks like I'm joining clubs for breadth and not depth. None of the colleges I'm applying to have interviews, and I don't want to waste my essay- my only shot to show colleges who I am- on why I was in 3/4 of our school's clubs, and president for only 1 year of only 1 club. Am I in trouble?

You’re not in trouble because the types of schools you’ll realistically be targeting will not evaluate your ECs or “leadership”. Only the very selective ones utilize that information to any meaningful degree. On other threads, you’r metrics indicate that you’ll be applying to schools that will admit you gladly without the want nor desire to read through your leadership/EC accomplishments.

You said you want to show colleges “who you are”. But you must adhere to what THEY define as to what they want to know about you. They want to know your transcript, GPA and ACT. Nothing else.

Thus, you won’t be hampered. The best thing you can do is to pound out a great GPA for this upcoming semester. In-state in Michigan offers you some very solid schools, both large and small – and affordable. Best of luck to you.
