Process of financial aid calculation by universities

I was contacted by a University I applied to regarding my financial aid application and its review within a committee. I was just wondering if colleges go to the trouble of processing (calculating the award) every single financial aid application (meaning anyone that submitted the appropriate documents, admitted or not) for early applicants or if they just process those from the admitted pool. The school is need-blind but it seems like an awful lot of trouble for them to process financial aid info if they aren’t going to admit the student. Can anyone clarify on this particular part of the process?

Yes and no. Some schools will wait until the student is admitted to package aid, but others will get everything in order in advance … because it’s the only way to be ready when the admissions trigger is pulled. A school with rolling admissions will generally package only admitted students … one with an admissions notification date will typically get packages ready in advance.

The school has a notification date, so they probably package all applicants. Thanks! – exactly what I was looking for.
