Professor Declined My Request for Recommendation?

I was looking to apply to transfer out of my current university (huge public school), and having taken 3 classes last quarter, I was hoping one of my professors in my major could write me an LOR. That class had about 400 students in it and my TA knew me better so I emailed my TA and professor. My professor emailed me back and said he had too many other recommendations to write, but if my TA agrees to write one, can't my professor still just sign it off?

And in the case where my TA also says no, what do I do? I didn't really get to know my other 2 professors from Fall quarter too well though I did well in their classes. I was planning on asking for an LOR from one fall quarter professor and one winter quarter professor. But now, I might have to ask for 2 from winter quarter professors. Can one of the recommendations be from a professor leading a freshman pass/fail discussion-based seminar? (The class is required to be pass/fail grading only, no letter grades).

You need to talk to your prof and see if they’re willing do that.

Unless the colleges you’re applying to state that you can’t send a LOR from a P/F class, then it should be OK. It’s going to be up to you to determine whether this will be a stronger LOR than one from a wt. qt. prof.

Fortunately, two of my professors have agreed to write a recommendation for me. One is from a TA but it is appropriate for that class since the TA does all the grading and interaction with students during the 3-hour weekly section.

On another note, one of my teachers notified me that he had submitted the recommendation, but it was still giving him the yellow circle instead of a green one. And I checked my account and under his name, it says “Started: (date)”. If it was complete, should it say “Completed” under his name? I was thinking the Common App displays a yellow circle for him because I did not yet submit my application. Does anyone know about this?

And can I “assign” professor recommendations after they complete the form? Or do I have to “assign” them to each school before they complete the form?
