Professors grading

Hey, I posted this in the Bar, but that thread was taken over by move-in type questions. Basically, can professors decide on any curve they want for the class, like a 90% as B or 85% is a C, or are there university requirements preventing down-curving?

There are certain university requirements, but in my experience, there has been no downcurving. I think my physics lab had certain numbers of grades they could give out (5 A’s, 10 B’s, and 5 C or lower, I think)
