Program Website

I know CCU now offers a BFA in MT and a BFA in Acting. However, the website for the theater dept. seems to be dated back to 2008. Is it possible to update it soon? I mention this as when I recommend the school to prospective students and the degrees offered, it is confusing if they visit the site to learn more information and the site doesn’t match the information or program degrees that I am telling them about. Thanks!

(this is mostly for kjgc, but anyone else who can pass it on)

They also offer a BFA in Physical Theatre, which is the first of it’s kind in the US so it’d be wonderful to include that as well. I’m sure kjgc will see this! He mentioned to me that he’d be updating it along with the new curriculum (only a slight change between the previous BA curriculum) soon.

soozievt - The new CCU catalog is online and has the course curriculum for the BFA in MT and Theatre Arts (Acting, Design and Technology, Physical Theatre) as well as for the BA in Dramatic Arts. If you have a student who is interested they can see what the programs offer/require. The info you want starts on page 153:

Thanks for the update!

New website is about 85% complete. We have the basic template complete, and are working on text and bells and whistles. Unfortunately, I’m in Lincoln NE (International Thespian Festival) this week and won’t get much work done. But I promise it will be up ASAP. I’ll post a note here as soon as it’s done.

New site is up and running.

Nice site! Love the paragraph regarding the interview - speaks volumes about the program.

Excellent website format.

kjgc, can you tell us the size of your department? How many kids do you accept each year for the BFA Acting and BFA MT programs? Do the actors audition for musicals and vice verse? Any opportunities for the acting kids to take voice lessons from the MT instructors.

arrdad,
Currently we have 85 majors distributed among the programs. We fully expect that to grow to 100-105 over the next two years. Again, that is four programs (BFA Acting, Musical Theatre, Physical Theatre, Design and Technology, BA Theatre).

We accept 10 actors, 10 in musical theatre and 8 in physical theatre, and as many techs as we can find - but that won’t exceed 8.

All students audition for all shows and the crossover is common. Acting (after all) is acting. All actors get time with the Musical Director coaching them so that they can at least have some idea of what they are doing. If an actor wants to take voice, it is an option.

We don’t guarantee time in a voice studio, but to date nobody has been turned away. We have four full-time voice studios, all of whom can take up to 15 students. So, it stands to reason that there would be slots available. Once in a studio, you can stick with it for the rest of your time on campus.

Any other questions - feel free to ask.

Thanks kjgc.

Although we only know Alexa and her mom from this forum, as fellow Texans we followed her journey this year as she auditioned for programs, ultimately deciding on Coastal Carolina. Her comments over the past few months are enough to get anyone interested in what you are doing with your program.

Did I read somewhere that you guys may be coming to the North Texas Drama Auditions in November and/or to the Unifieds in Chicago?

Hi Kjgc! Congrats on the official launch of your BFA programs and the website!

I had a question the numbers you posted: “10 actors, 10 in musical theatre and 8 in physical theatre, and as many techs as we can find - but that won’t exceed 8.” Are these the numbers you accept or the numbers you aim to yield? If the numbers you aim to yield, do you accept more students to yield those numbers, or only accept the number you intend to yield – waitlisting other studentsv in case not all you accept choose to attend?

KatMT. Those are our intended yields. Our acceptance numbers will be based on a variety of factors. We did initially offer slightly (very slightly) more than our intended yield this year, and as a result did not use our waitlist at all. The waitlist was not deep, but we will likely continue the same model this year.

arrdad,

Alexa is my new unofficial spokesperson/recruiter. CCU will indeed be a part of the North Texas Drama Auditions this year, and we will be in Chicago the same days as Unifieds. I make the distinction because technically we will not be part of the Unifieds. That is a closed group of schools. But, like many schools, we will be in Chicago, at the same hotel, at the same time, as Unifieds.

arrdad…another Coastal Carolina BFA Class of 2014 MT parent here…cannot say enough about how we (as a family) and my D was treated at the auditions and the feel she came away with afterwards. She was so happy to have been offered a place and feels that is where she is meant to be! We are so excited for the fall and the great things to come out of this wonderful opportunity.

blushes All the incoming freshman and I already love CCU just based on our orientations alone and are counting down the days until Welcome Week (Today is 23, I believe!). I know there is an “ask a student” thread already with one of the recently graduated MT majors, but feel free to ask us questions there as well once we actually get started. We’d love to answer any questions or at least ask the upperclassman we can find! :)

Thanks kjgc. Look forward to seeing CCU at one or both of the aforementioned auditions.

Good luck to Alexa and theatrelvr’s daughter as they get started with their college careers. Hopefully they will occasionally visit us on this site to update us about the program. It’s great when students chime in.

The website has been updated for the 2011-2012 audition season!

Daryl Fazio did a beautiful job with the new posters (although the last 3 are still listed as “coming soon!”) but it boasts some lovely new pictures from last season’s productions, and the updated audition schedule, as well as listing the addition of our two new faculty members. Definitely worth checking out!
