For SCS, how much does programming experience with a popular open source project help? I was one of the key developers for this project and it's extremely popular. Does this mean I have a higher chance for SCS?

Also, I've taken two modules at a local uni. One of them is just a introductory module but the other one is a third-year AI course and I got A-.

Does SCS look for students with prior experience or does all this count for nothing (i.e does only high school gpa + sat matter??)

no programming experience NECESSARY but many kids here do have some. People usually have high gpas and sats so other hooks would matter more. The admissions people wouldn't discard your programming experience but that doesn't necessarily mean you have MORE chance than anyone else...

So SCS admission is just admission to any other college? That sucks.. I was really hoping my programming experience would help. Anyone else have any thoughts?

No, it will probably help you to some degree. They don't require any, but they aren't going to ignore it...if anything it shows interest in your field.

It's definitely a plus - but who knows how much of a plus. My son wrote his essays about the computer stuff he'd done, including the programming for a popular Civ 4 mod. It's all good.
