the topic says it all.
Are local students preferred over International students? If yes, why because dont international students pay more?

Most colleges are need-blind when it comes to domestic applicants, meaning they don't take account your financial position. For international applicants, most colleges (especially top ones) are NOT need-blind. Depending on how much you expect to pay for the college may affect your admissions.

One pro of being an international applicant is if you are applying from a third world country, this includes most countries in Africa, South and Central America, and Southeast Asian countries. This does not include countries such as England, France, Germany, Japan, China, Korea, India, and Singapore. Appying from does countries might actually hurt you.

What about Southeast Europe, and more specificly Bulgaria? Does it help or not?

so applying from Pakistan will hurt me? damn! =P

I think they meant the other way around...applying from germany and stuff will hurt you whereas the smaller lesser known countries might be a lil bit more of an adv.

This is ********!

No international student who is able to pay all or a significant part of the tuition bill will be hurt. However, since most of the people in this world are from non-Western countries and lack the financial resources necessary to foot an American college bill, they are hurt because funds for international student financial aid are scarce. In other words, international student admissions is a whole lot more selective than American student admissions since financial aid funds for internationals are so much more limited. It's not so much a matter of where you're from, but rather about how great of an applicant you are and how much money you'd need to get through four years of college.

in conclusion, being an international student will neither help me nor have any negative effect even if i apply form Pakistan?
