I'd like to get advice from someone who has experienced it or knows someone who is majoring in it.

Try posting this over in the Engineering Majors forum, you’ll probably get more responses there.

I don’t know much, but my brother is a senior majoring in ChemE. He says it’s hard (obviously), but he enjoyed it. He had really good grades (like X>3.7), so he had a great job lined up last October. You basically need to do an internship or two to have a shot at a good job. He said that other students with poor grades and/or communication skills had a lot of trouble finding internships. He does know a few people still looking for jobs, but in general most people are doing well.

That’s all I know, really.
