i toured south yesterday and i loved it: it's brand new, has great rooms, attached dining hall, etc etc but...its sooo far away from everything. ive heard that south is its own little community, but i feel that the 15+ minute walk to classes may overwhelm that fact...or maybe im just incredibly lazy. what have you all heard about south, good or bad??

A 15 minute walk in good weather might turn into a 30 minute walk in the snow, unfortunately. Also, you might want to factor in how far it is from south to Regenstein. But I assume they still run the shuttles, which are plentiful and reliable.

I live in south campus. Facilities are beautiful, social life can be summed up by pointing out that somebody peed in the refrigerator.

South campus is the “UChicago denialism” dorm, where freshmen who want to pretend they go to state school live.

unfortunately .

South is not “15+ minutes” away from campus. It takes approx 5 mins to get to the north end of the quad. And no, it does not turn into a “30 minute walk” in the snow. That’s ■■■■■■■■.

Take this from someone who lived in the ever convenient Max P for two years and has lived half a block south of South Campus this academic year. South is NOT far away from campus. You guys should have seen the old shoreland… whew that was far away.

Far away from campus? Puhleese! .6 miles from South to the Reg. If that’s too far, you are in woeful need of more exercise.

That doesn’t even count cutting across the lawn!

You can make it from South Campus to the Reg in ten minutes at a brisk walking pace. It’s really not that far - probably six or seven minutes to classes on the quad - and the “30 minute walk in the snow” is just plain false. If anything, you’ll walk faster, because you want to get indoors, so it’ll turn into an eight minute walk to the Reg, and five to quad classes.

Though, I have to admit, walking from BJ/SC to Henry Crown or the biology building is a major pain in the winter. Fifteen minute walk in the freezing cold = not fun at all.
