If a classically trained very strong undergrad candidate (advanced in theory, very strong sight singer, experienced performer) prefers to attend Oberlin College, can he still take lessons with Oberlin faculty at the highest level? Or are college students limited to teachers other than Champagne, LeFebvre etc? If such a student were to study with one of the professorial level teachers, what would those lessons cost and would they be credit-bearing?

While we're at it, any advice on which teacher to request a sample lesson with? (Extensive repertoire of art songs and liturgical music available but his primary passion is musical theater.)

College students definitely have access to the Con. I believe we would be able to take lessons with any prof. willing to give him lessons and even take classes in the con if he’s interested. There are also Music and Theater majors in the college, so any of those opportunities would be open to him as well. I don’t know much, but I would contact college admissions or call the conservatory, if you haven’t already, and they would definitely be able to answer your questions!

We just visited, and were told that College students can audition to take lessons from Conservatory faculty, but it is unusual to be accepted. On the other hand, students can take lessons from Conservatory students for $7.50 half hour – not applicable to your situation, obviously.
