And for any appointees, candidates or their parents, if you do not subscribe to this yet, here's the link. You will appreciate the factual information. It may not be as much fun as cc :) but you'll get very real answers to your questions.

True, not as much chatting and fun, but members will get the first word on when Plebe Net will be opened to 2010. Also for those classes coming up after 2010, there are USMA Field Force reps on the board who have the most current answers to admissions questions. Parents and candidates can join Prospective Net, after that, only parents/grandparents can join Plebe Net.

Just a word of advice on Plebe Net--take everything with a grain of salt. A lot of stuff on there comes from Plebes telling their parents Cadet rumors, and then the parents relay the info as fact. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just be careful.

That's an interesting comment. Since USMA Public Affairs monitors the board, I have yet to something like that happen.

yeah, i've seen parent net as being nothing more than the worst rumor mill at the academy. everything my mom would ask me about that was on there was wrong/non-factual

West Point in general is a rumor fest. ;-) At least with the WP-ORG boards, there are folks from the academy monitoring. If something is posted that is incorrect, it is corrected. In between that time, parents often IM or email their cadet asking to verify, thus the impression of rumors.

When a cadet is traveling and needs assistance in another city/country, parents need Army Navy tickets, or Grad Week tips, it is a helpful resource. It is also a support system during Beast for many parents.

PAO releases information concerning events, leave dates, etc., directly to the boards. In addition, there are many parents on the boards who are USMA grads as well as former and current faculty.

Most parents learn quickly that the best source of information is their own cadet, but there are times when the forums are very helpful.
