PSAT cutoff

Is a 216 good enough for Florida? It jumped last year, but I have never seen it above the 214 cutoff last year.

^You’ve “reason” to celebrate as all signs point to FL dropping this year. A 216 puts you in great shape!

What about Arizona?

Is 225 good enough for FL?

^With the the expected drop in the cutoff for FL, I think its practically guaranteed that a 216 would make it, let alone a 225.

Ice…

A 223 is high enough for ANY state. So, you’re definitely good.

Peaches7893…

The data on AZ is mixed. The # of AZ PSAT testtakers went up by 6%, which is bad, but the number of students scoring in the top ranges (65-80) still dropped (a little). My guess (and it’s only a guess) is that the NMSF cutoff for AZ will be very close to last year’s, which was 213.

Arent there Letters from SAT that are due to go out in April regarding PSAT from last Fall?

Idavis…The letters are being sent out to the high schools today. Next week students will receive notification in the mail about choosing the 2 college choices

Thanks Kallyan ;)

Please clarify: which letters are being sent out today? Thanks. JR

from the College Board website:

"50,000 are recognized for their academic potential. "

for most States this would be a score of 200+ give or take 3 or 4 points?
No scholarship money but the option of reporting your score of
200ish to 2 Colleges of their choice. Still top 2% Nationallly :)

Letter stating above to go out to kids next week I guess.

I have a friend who got a 217 in CA and said she qualified for national merit. …that’s not true, is it? I thought you needed 220 here.

Your friend would not yet know if he/she was a national merit SF qualified because the qualifying score has not been released… But any day now we should hear. Your college counselor will know before you will!! If he/she means qualified for commended status then she is right… A 217 will certainly be commended. Sf? Don’t know yet

@127

Thank you! A little reassurance always helps :)

that’s what I thought too, Texasmom. She said that she knew someone with a 206 who qualified for national merit, and that you could tell depending on whether or not there was an asterisk next to your scores. Good for her if a 217 is NMSF worthy, though! I got a 230 and according to CC that seems to be decent.

Question: is there a certain score you need to get above to become a finalist?

No…there’s no Finalist score. Once you make NMSF, your psat doesn’t matter.

You just have to get a decent SAT (about 2000), do the paperwork, the essay, send SAT score to NMF, not be a discipline problem at school, etc.

15,000 out of the 16,000 NMSF make finalist.

really? whoo hoo! I’m liking those odds
thanks mom2collegekids! :)

Jroback…the letters that let the schools know which students are proceeding on in the competetion and still have a shot at becoming a semi-finalist, etc. Then in Sept the students will be notified as to whether they are semi-finalists or not. This is when the PSAT qualifying numbers are published

“Your friend would not yet know if he/she was a national merit SF qualified because the qualifying score has not been released… But any day now we should hear.”

Texasmomm, I am under the impression that we will only know the commended number very soon. Are you saying that the SF number is also being released within the next few weeks? I believe the other posts state that the SF number by state is released in August/September.
