PSAT Practice Problems- Need some Help

Hey guys. I took a previously administered practice PSAT and I was stuck on the following questions. It would be great if you could help me figure out a proper and efficient method of obtaining the answers.

Math Problem:

x= sum of all odd integers from 1 to 49, inclusive
y= sum of all even integers from 2 to 50, inclusive
z= sum of all integers from 1 to 48, inclusive

Based on the definitions of x,y, and z above, what is the value of x+y-z ?

Writing problem[Identify the error]:

Its strategic location and its importance to so many religions are two of the reasons that the Middle East has and will continue to be a volatile part of the world.

A) its importance to
B) so many
C) reasons that
D) has and will
E) No error

Thanks in advance! :)

For the math, x+y is basically all the numbers from 1 to 50 added up. Subtract all the numbers from 1 to 48, and you’re left with 49 and 50. Add those two, you should get the answer.

For the writing, I would say no error.

for the writing question, the answer is D

explanation : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/80179-more-writing-questions.html

i was thinking that the ‘that’ in ‘reasons that’ was unnecessary? I thought that it was similar to ‘reasons why’

No, I get it now, it should be has been and will continue to be.
