The results for whether we are qualified for either commended or semi finalist are not released until the fall of next year (or at least that's what I've been told), but do we have to wait until those results arrive before sending college apps, or will colleges automatically get the info if we do qualify? I made a 200 on the PSAT, and this is borderline on the commended cut off in my state. I have an app that I will want to send ASAP because admissions are rolling and scholarship decisions are made shortly after being admitted, so my chances of getting as much as possible are increased if I apply early. I don't want to have to be stuck waiting for something.

r u sure u’re commended?did u get the letter that said u were commended b/c i thought the national cutoff was like a 201? i might be wrong b/c it changes from year to year. Did you send your scores to the 2 colleges that the Commended title allows you to send, that would notify them of the score you made. You can try calling the college to ask them about your question. Good luck

Well that’s the thing, I don’t know if I’m commended or not. I know that last year’s cut off was 201, and I have no idea what the cut off this year is. I thought they announce the cut offs in the fall of this upcoming school year.

You can send the application whenever you like, after your chosen colleges have started to accept them.

If you earn honors, including National Merit, during the fall, you can update the colleges yourself. On the admissions office’s web page, you can probably find the name of the admissions officer who is responsible for the area where you live. If you can, email that person directly with the information, and he or she will update your file. If you can’t find the name of your particular representative, you can email the admissions office.

you should have received a letter from the national merit in april or so if you were at least commended. commended cut-off is national, not state-wide. national semi cut-off will be announced early in fall. schools don’t automatically receive that information, they buy it. they don’t match with you application. most application deadlines are mid september or later, so you will know if you’re a semi. 200 may or may not make it as commended. if you haven’t received a letter i mentioned earlier, you may be out of luck.

My son got a 207 in NY and received a letter letting him notify two schools of that fact. If you didn’t get such a letter, you might not be commended. I would contact CB and check for sure before writing on an app that you received an honor you may not have.

The cut-off for commended status is National and not state by state, like the semifinal status is.

The commended cutoff for the October 2010 test is 202. I got a 201 -_-.

Anyway, getting commended status doesn’t really help much for college admission. Maybe a little bit, but it definitely wont make your application or even boost it lol.
