i totally bombed the cr with a 60......

dont worry....i dont think the collegeboard would move the commended cutoff up to 204 and better...... that would be cruel.....maybe one point...but not two (i dont think at least) .....if I was your friend, I would be extremely nervous... 202 is a pretty horrible score (its not horrible in the sense that its a bad score, but horrible in the sense that you are so close to commended cutoff.... I have a feeling they will raise it this yr to 203 and above)...... Imagine- if you would of got 1 more point..you would of made it....
Again, i dont think you have anything to worry about - you made it !!
Your friend is close -could go either way...tell him/her good luck!

So...
202 - 96%
203-96%
204- 97% (thts what i got)
I wonder when 98% starts and 99%....

Got my scores:

223 selection index
78 CR (0 wrong, one omitted)
72 Math (3 wrong, one omitted)
73 Writing (3 wrong)

It's really weird because math is usually my strongest, but I enjoy English a lot more.

Selection index for FL is usually 215, so I think I'm good. Twelve kids from my school qualified.

Congratulations to everyone.

did you take the wednesday or saturday test? any more info on curves/raw scores, etc. based on your friends' scores?

Wednesday.

Umm, I tried not to talk much about it because a lot of my friends were feeling bad about it... But one girl got a 238... 80 in everything except writing with one wrong (78).

your math raw score must be a 33 if you had 3 wrong, one omit and 72 is too high to be true. what is your actual raw score?

Sorry, my mistake.

on math:

2 wrong, one omitted 72.

i got a 207 and it said 97%. the guidance counselor said cutoff was 222 for national merit. how do you find out if you are commended? my school does not acknowledge commended.

I homeschool, so my results are going to arrive in the mail. Earlier today I had my hopes up that my scores had finally come, and eagerly looked through the mail for the score report. Sure enough, it wasn't there, and I felt like screaming, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" at the top of my lungs. Don't you just love waiting for PSAT results? :D

By the way, has anyone from Tennessee gotten theirs yet?

infamousx, post #386, for CR is that 4 wrong or raw score of -4?

reading, commended cutoff was 202 last year; should be around there this year, maybe a point higher - 207 should be commended. If you are commended OR higher, in May you will get a letter from NMSC congratulating you on being a high scorer, and asking you to name two colleges to be notified of your interest. In late summer/September, semi-finalists (the cutoff score for this varies by state) will be notified.

jrpar - thanks for the response.

i took the wednesday test and got:

76 Math (missed one)
71 Writing (missed four)
64 Criticial Reading (missed seven)

211 - Overall - 98% percentile

is it just me or does this curve seem rediculously tough?

me dividing 75/10 instead of 10/75 on the math was basically the deciding factor of me getting 211 instead of 215 so i am majorly ****ed off about that. i knew that i completely bombed the verbal though :-( . i live in florida and their cutoff was 214 for the past two years according to CC message boards. do i even have a remote chance on getting national merit? or is the semifinalists defiently only for the people in the 99% percentile? i was also wondering, does anyone know how the percentiles work? are they national or only per state?

thanks a lot guys and remember the psat is just one stupid test that you take on one stupid day and being nervous and not being able to do simple division can very likely be the difference between semifinalists and commended or commended and nothing. remember that people. i have been telling myself that all day ever since i got my scores at school and it helps me not obsess (at least to an absurd rediculous amount) over me not being able to divide or not knowing the rediculously simple word "soltury" on the CR.

also, it is so not fair that the saturday test was easier!!!

so, is there any chance for me? reality herts but i need to know.

good luck to everyone who has yet to receive their scores!!! :-)

also....

ninth grade = 170
tenth grade = 190
eleventh grade = 211

i went up twenty points per year with minimal prep
it is possible
dont give up frosh and soph, if u have a brain in ur head and suck at taking standarized tests, take a look at my scores, im in the same boat as u

spongebobspongebob, you probably did a lot better than me
i make so much freakin' math errors that there'll be a miracle if i become a NMSF
i'm sorry that 211 doesn't seem likely to be a NMSF, commended definitely, but usually the NMSF are a few points higher

Does anyone else think the National Merit standards will be lower this year because of the ludicrous wed. curve? I so wish I had taken the saturday...what really doesn't make sense to me though is that the saturday test seemed MUCH easier...yet the curve for it is MUCH more lenient. I guess college board just hates me.

If the curve is so tough, then many students must have done well.

face it - the wed kids got screwed =(
No excuses from you lucky Saturday ppl....

Kids, hope what happened to me doesn't happen to you.

I got 216, same score junior year as sophomore year, cause I never studied. And plus, to boot, I fell asleep during the PSAT test, because I was up playing computer games late the night before. I thought "EH, 216, not the best, but it'll do" because 216 and above (some years, it was 215 or even 214) was semifinalist scores all the other years.

Turns out that national merit semi-finalist score for our year was 217.

I kicked myself in the ass so hard after that. I never fell asleep during a standardized test again, and I never played video games late into the night the day before (:P doesn't mean I don't play tho.)

Moral of the story: don't be like me, kids.

Even tho it might be too late.

And CCers aren't like me. :P

I went from 193 sophomore year to 223 this year... 30 points. I think a lot of it was i just started reading a lot more... I wish I could find my CR score from last year... I think it went up around 15 points or so. And I took a Princeton Review course over the summer... Not too bad.
