taking the PSAT today, i did not have my social Security # and i unfortuanetly don't have it memorized so i had to leave it blank, but our guy said a SSN was optional anyway, I am still eligible for everything even if i did leave it blank, right?

Yeah, don't worry about it.

in fact, I would say DON'T give them your SSN. Think about it. After you turn in your test, you have no way of knowing who will look at your booklet. If some guy that's transporting the booklets happens to be a identity thief... well, you know where i'm going with this.

I gave it to them but who cares, why would someone want to steal my identity. It's not like I have any money in any bank accounts or anything.

It's not about taking money from your bank accounts, it's about being able to open new ones- ruining your credit and making the rest of your life a living hell.

The people who proctor these exams really don't give a crap- besides, if any of those SSNs got stolen, where do you think the first place they'd check is?

The primary reason of giving it is that if you make a typo (For example, Jhon Simth instead of John Smith), they could properly link your test to the rest of your account. I give it for my ACTs and SATs, but colleges don't need it- so I don't give it to them.
