Question to anyone who already has or is going to be taking the PSAT. I'm going to be taking them this October, and I have high hopes of getting the National Merit Scholar, or at least be a semi-finalist. I took it last year as practice and only got a 180. I'm looking to increase that score by at least 30-40 points. My question is what's the best way to study for the PSAT, any good books, or should I just study for the SAT?

Just study for the SAT. The PSAT is just a shorter version of the SAT without the essay.

I studied my ass off for a few months. I got my score from a 188 to a 217. You can definitely do it.

You don't have to buy any PSAT-specific prep books. I did, and they were a waste of money. Use Collegeboard's blue Official book, and take a few practice tests, and go over your mistakes.

By the way, I've been here for 1.5 years pretty constantly, and this is my 100th post. What does that say about myself?

Sign up for the SAT question of the day email that collegeboard does on their website.

Mhmmm.....I raised mine from 195 to 210.....and honestly among people I know that's a nice jump. I mean don't want to discourage you or anything, just make sure you study your a** off.

P.S.-Use SAT books like everyone said.

Don't study. The PSAT is made to be really easy, particularly the math section, which has none of the more advanced stuff in the SAT.

You can definitely raise it! I know a kid who went from 176 to 222 and is expecting 2350+ on the SAT. O__O He did it by practicing SAT questions. It's a very learnable test!

I went down between my sophomore and junior years. -___- I got a 234 soph and 230 junior. But that's 'cuz the curve changed -- both years, I only missed one per section.

Just meditate. Release that chi.

wow, you're such a smartie. ;)

Geez, this post order is so much horrendous. I'd give ALL the watermelons in my house, all 30 of it, just to fix this status.

okay cool, thanks everyone for your help. I've been doing the SAT Question of the day, I have my vocab lists, and practice SAT's, I think I'm ready.
