Hi everybody! I'm currently a sophomore in high school, and I was wondering if it was viable to take PSEO at Macalester. I'm thinking about either chemistry or political science... My senior year schedule will be pretty booked up and will look something like this:

1.) AP Calc II (BC)
2.) AP Government and Politics
3.) CIS Language / Literature
4.) AP Physics
5.) AP Psychology?
6.) DECA (Marketting)?

My main concern is that I might end up getting a grade lower than an A trying to do PSEO, and that probably won't look good on transcript. Does anybody know the rigor of Macalester's chemistry and political science courses?

I’m glad you are thinking ahead! Please take a look at the PSEO information at <a href=“Academic Preparation and College Credit - Admissions & Aid”>A Top Liberal Arts College - Macalester College. High school juniors and seniors must exhaust their high school options before applying to Mac for PSEO. It looks like you have a full load of core classes your senior year, leaving little room for additional course work.

You are welcome to contact us directly at admissions@macalester.edu to discuss your situation.

Thank you for the reply! I was wondering if I could, since there are no more courses I can possibly take for Economics. What qualifies as “exhausted”? As in “exhausted” corse courses, such as all science courses? Thanks!

Just for the record, my opinions have changed… Political science / chemistry I think still qualify as my schools’ counterparts of AP Government and College Chemistry.

Mac will consider applications from students who have successfully completed the curriculum available at their high school in any one of these five areas: science, mathematics, social studies, English, and foreign language. For example, in order to take an international studies course at Macalester, students would have to exhaust all of the social studies classes available at their high school. In order to take a physics course at Macalester, students would have to exhaust all of the science (not just the physics) courses available at their high school.
