@aquablue0128 with a change in major you can ask to be reconsideed for fall admission as well. Engineering is more competitve. I was surprised with your stats that you were put in summer. I’ve seen far lesser stats admitted for fall! I’d ask for reconsideration if you are changing your major. It won’t hurt your spot in summer if they say no…unless you applied directly to summer in which case nevermind!

@aquablue0128 I am pretty surprised that you got the summer acceptance. The only weakness looks like your SATs, and you didn’t even submit them. A 29 and 4.2, straight A’s and in-state is solid. I hope this doesn’t mean that there are fewer and fewer spots available and so selection is becoming more selective?? But, honestly, Pitt has higher entrance criteria according to their CDS – GPA average for enrolled freshman was 3.99 for 2014 – and looks like you got in there easily, so I don’t get it. Were you weak on any of the required/recommended hs courses (lab, math, foreign lang)? Nonetheless, congratulations: I hear summer is tons of fun.

@Leyland PSU told my friend who they accepted to a regional campus that they were out of space at UP already, but looks like more people are still hearing from UP so maybe not sure that’s right, but this does lead me to believe that they are running low on space already.

@cl3v3land perhaps the major they chose was more competitive but since most people don’t hear until January, there is no way they are out of space at UP. I was told by admissions two weeks ago that only a very small percentage of people have been notified. That leaves a ton of people left to hear ! The whole thing is confusing!

@jlhpsu that makes me feel much better, I hope you’re right. It doesn’t seem like anyone has been accepted as “undecided” yet, is that done after the specific majors?

@pinkmd no worries. I had to call admissions for something else today (regarding my D’s dual enroll clalsses) so I took the opportunity to ask about UP being filled. The admissions counselor assured me that is not at all true and that most decisions come out in January. She reiterated what I’ve heard before which is that the applications are not “first in, first out” . She said they are coded and sent different places in admissions based on many different factors. So different admissions reps work at different speeds and with differing inventory, so in the end, the output is random.
She did say ththat while my D has had the same status since September 8th and thats a long time to wait, it is not all that unusual. She was very nice and reassuring and double checked my D’s file to make sure it was all in order.

I have seen one DUS admit show up on this thread. But keep in mind this thread is a small representative of total admits.

jlhpsu… I love your responses and they are getting us through this waiting! Sounds like your D is similar to my D… undeclared and waiting since sept… do
you mind sharing her stats.

Thank you!

@jlhpsu I checked my application and under the Program of Study, I indicated Summer 2015, so maybe that’s why? I called today and they said that I will still have to do summer session, but should I call back a different day and ask if I could be reconsidered for fall, since I didn’t know I applied directly into summer? I don’t want to annoy them hahaha, and I kind of want to do LEAP the more I read about it.

@aquablue0128 It makes much more sense that you applied directly to summer. I was surprised you didn’t get in for fall. That being said, if you’ve already asked to be reconsidered for fall and they said no, then I’d guess the answer is no. It wouldn’t hurt to call again if you didn’t specifically ask to be reconsidered. But it sounds like maybe you want to do summer afterall? I’ve heard it’s a great experience that gIves people a head start on fall.

@bs2019 I’m not familiar with the engineering program but for Smeal business school, students can’t declare a specific major within the business school until the end of sophomore year. It is possible the same goes for engineering. There are certain classes and GPA requirements for each major. If you go on PSU website under “Sample Academic Plans Meeting Degree Requirements for College of Engineering Majors by Campus of Admission” It spells it out.
