PSU vs Rose-Hulman vs UW-Madison?

Hello everyone! I am an international student who is going to major in engineering.

I have Penn state park, rose-hulman and UW-Madison, now, having a hard to in making my final decision.

I probably will major in CS or electrical engineering. I also have some engineering-related APs to skip some classes.

Is there anyone who can help me? If anyone knows only one of these schools, that is also fine.

Thank you all!

Can you give us any guidance? What do you want in a school? Can you afford all of them?

@bodangles Sure, my parents have enough savings to support me in all of these colleges. I want to do some internships during my college life, which can help to get a job. I heard that psu has a strong networking to help students, and RHIT even has super high recruiting rate. And what about UW-Madison? Does it also have big career fair? I saw UW-Madison has a super high rank in CS among U.S colleges, is this going to help? for my career?

I only know RHIT is very small, and I can get lots of helps from Profs. Is the life there going to be geeky? And what I am concerning is the reputation of RHIT? Is it only famous in Indiana state? I wish to work in Eastern U.S, so what is its reputation in Eastern U.S?

Many thanks! Thank you for any advice and idea!

Working in the US straight out of undergrad would be tough. UW-Madison CS is well-respected, however.

People who know of RHIT really respect it as well. It’s more well-known in the Midwest.

@Purple Titan Thank you! Is UW-Madison Well-known in Eastern U.S? or it just has reputation in Mid region?

UW-Madison is known throughout the United States and around the world.

All three are well-known for STEM.

Did you get into the Honors College at either UWisconsin or Penn State?

Do you want to live in a great college town? => State College or Madison, with Madison better (Madison is often ranked #1 best college town in the country)
Do you hope to visit American cities during your breaks? => State College is about 4-5 hours from DC , Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City.
Do you want a lot of personal attention and smaller classes? => Rose Hulman
Are you quite conservative? => Rose Hulman; are you quite liberal? => UWisconsin; are you moderate or not very political? => Penn State

@MYOS1634 Many thanks!

Wisconsin appears to be easier to gain admission to the CS major than Penn State.

  • The reality of getting a job in the US post graduation (with only a BS) is very tough. So, if you plan to go back to your home country to find a job after graduation, then think about which of these is most well known back home. If on the other hand you plan to go to grad school in the US, all three will prepare you well, though I would pick RHIT for the smaller classes, more personal attention, and excellent placement.
