This may seem like a ridiculous question, but I'm new at Cal this semester. Can I take Psych 205B without having taken Psych 205A? I know this class is meant for graduate students, so I'm not entirely clear on whether or not undergrads can take this class either.

This is a Data Analysis class. For the record, I'm an undergrad, but I'm extremely passionate about statistics; to a degree, I even find it fun and compelling.

As of now I'm registered in 3 upper div psych classes. (Research & Data Analysis, Clinical Psych, and Stigma & Prejudice). Ideally, I'd tack on this Dada Analysis class, but I need to know whether it's possible or advisable to do so.

Psychology 205A and 205B are a two-semester series covering the intermediate and some advanced statistical methods used in psychological research. It is strongly recommended that students take both 205A and 205B.** Entry into 205B without taking 205A will be possible only by prior arrangement**

since this is your first semester you probably won’t get in. have you even taken an introductory calculus based statistics course at the level of stat 134/135?

@ JetForce: First of all, thanks so much for replying! I read through that syllabus, and I’m familiar with many of the concepts provided. Granted, I haven’t taken a -calc- based stats class, but I have taken a psych stats with the general nonparametric stats, 1 & 2-way ANOVA, multiple regression, etc.

I don’t know if my knowledge of stats/psych stats would suffice for this class. Perhaps 205A, but judging by your post/syllabus it seems that it would probably be most wise to not take the class, right? I’m not going to take a class I don’t feel somewhat confident about.

I do love stats (particularly psych stats, as I’m a psych major), but if this class is likely too difficult being that I never took 205A, I won’t do it. Plus, as you said, the prof. may not even allow it lol.

If you could follow up with me, that’d be awesome! Thanks again!

e-mail the professor.

I was about to enroll in a graduate psych class last semester but after talking to the prof, I didn’t. they will have the answer (but don’t expect a reply until a week before winter break ends)
