PT/PTA College Course Questions

To any that can provide advice and/or experience, I’m really considering pursuing a route towards physical therapy. While maybe not a full-blown PT, I am intrigued by the work of a PTA; however, I’m not really sure on the rigors of a relevant degree in this field. I’m not really a math guy at all, so that could be a factor. Despite that, the field does seem rewarding in a variety of ways. How hard is school typically for a potential PTA? What are some of the toughest challenges I should expect in this field while studying, and also what are some of the more pleasant experiences? Lastly, what universities (nation-wide) are top schools for this program? Thanks in advance!

PTA programs are typically two year programs that are taught at community colleges. The major difference between a PTA and and LPT other than the length of time it takes to complete your education is the scope of practice. PTAs are supervised by LPTs . They follow a treatment plan established by the PT after the evaluation is completed . Courses for PTA are heavily science and math based . Admission to PTA programs is getting extremely competitive , with many schools having wait lists. You may want to go on the APTA website to get a clearer picture of the differences between the practice of a PT and a PTA.
