PU a shot in the dark?

I went to an extremely rigorous high school and was averaging about a 3.0 in the toughest courses offered through my junior year. I was bad about doing homework and such so I'm now at a postgraduate school (still my senior year) taking college chemistry, calculus, and composition along with a few other classes currently getting a 3.8-4.0 (Top 5%). I am also showing much better work habits. This year I began doing community service multiple times a week. I've been working at JHU (Hopkins) for about 6 years. The first 2 were spent unpaid doing repair, network setup, and website construction in the microscope facility. The second 2 years were spent building computers for a neonatal addiction research lab. I currently am working at the cystic fibrosis lab managing and repairing their network while my main job is statistical work in gene analysis. I've done presentations for the phisiology department and, assuming a grant gets through, will be setting up co-ordination for all the aspects of gene analysis. I hope to be using RT-PCR this summer to search for the CFTR gene in mitochondria. I will be taking the SAT II in december. My current scores in prep class hover around 2300 to 2350. By the end of this school year I hope to have a patent for a subsonic projectile. By the end of summer '07 I hope to have completed construction of a formula style race car. I am also starting a small trailer business for dingy sailboats. All that being said, I am an extremely strong writer and will have many strong recomendations from math, english, and chemistry teacher(s).
I want to double major in chem/physics or do Eng Chem.

So just how much of a hinderance will a ~3.25 GPA be?

hmm, copy and pasting, eh? well, you should know princeton doesn't allow double majors. I'd say your chances are alright, though. GPA will probably slow you down a bit, sorry.

Yep, I'm asking the question on all the forums for the schools on my suggested college list. Does Princeton offer an Eng Chem major?
How much would sailing for Princeton help my chances?

Chris

Hey
I'm a princeton student so maybe I can help you out a little. My unweighted gpa was 3.6, not perfect at all but i took hard classes which seems to be more important. At princeton sailing is a club sport and the admissions office doesn't even consider accepting club sport athletes simply for the sport. Sailing might help because it shows a range of different intrests but as far as "sailing for princeton", its not going to get you very far.

At princeton, you can be a chem E and a lot of people do it.

Another weakness you might want to work on is your community service. it's actually a lot more important than people think.

I'd say you have a chance. If a lot of quality students in your school graduate with under 3.5 because of the competition you're facing, princeton will take that into account.

Princeton's average GPA is 3.8 And if some get in with 4.0, then anything above 3.6 will not cause you problems. However, what I have said applies for schools with an average profile and your counselor will send a school profile w/ your application which states the average GPA of your class, colleges people from last year's graduation class got in, etc. All this stuff will equal it out somewhat... Maybe making one of your essays an explanation regarding GPA and such but doing it in a creative way?

Update - looks like Ill be top 2% in my current class with a 3.9 or 4.0
Any weight?

hey cwat, are you ED'ing?
