Public School vs. Prep, Higher Income vs. Lower, and ...

Does any of it make a difference, or should it make a difference? I think a poor kid going to a public school and becoming a valedictorian has shown much more effort than a small private prep valeditorian boy.

Make a difference for what?

Depends. People know the rigor of private schools, but they also know how bad it sucks to come from really low-income private schools.

Much too much of an open ended question to answer, sorry :(.

i don’t know what you mean. i think it might be easier for a high-achieving kid at an underachieving school to become valedictorian than for a kid at a small prep school, actually. both types of applicants deserve recognition though.

Yes, both types deserve recognition and both types get accepted to Harvard. I don’t know if one type is preferred over the other.

Thread fail.

I go to a private catholic school and the Valedictorian and Salutatorian were just revealed yesterday (to them, but they told some people). I can honestly say I barely know any two people that work harder than them. I can’t say a poor kid in the public school system doesn’t deserve to be recognized but I definitely won’t say they show any more ‘effort’. My schools system is indeed rigorous and we do how our fair share of geniuses but it doesn’t mean that people roll on by and graduate to their respective colleges with the snap of a finger.
