I want to get into a career immediately after my undergraduate degree to make some money before I start my own business venture for which I have some good ideas. I have a dilemma: public or private universities? If there isn't any huge advantage I would like to avoid taking on debt (either myself or through parents) during my UG studies.

From the point of view of career prospects how much difference is there between the UG education from the private and the public universities?
This probably is an important issue for a great number of students who look at the advantages of public unversities, i.e., cost and proximity to family home. I'd love to hear from the people who have already thought about this.

Nearly 70% of undergraduates take up employment immediately after the degree. Once employed, the future in the profession is mostly determined by job performance and not by the brand name value of the university. Any prospects for higher education after a few years of employment are also determined mostly by test scores. Given this situation, why is there such a great desire for admission to private universities? is it based on herd mentality or are there hard facts to support the majority decisions?

Thanks for any insights.
