Newsweeks Top Public High Schools vs the Top Private schools in New England ( Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, Lawrence, Milton Academies.) Which is better?

OMG how funny are you? Did you read the criteria for the Newsweek List? Of course you must consider the criteria and Exeter for one, doesn't teach to the AP exams period. You are comparing apples and oranges. That is why you don't see some very fine schools on the list. You also don't see college matriculations, SAT scores or other criteria.

Lawrence Academy is no where near one of the finest privates in New England

The point of the Newsweek rankings are to determine which schools teach to the average student the most effectively, hence the omission of high schools with competitive admissions. To underline Hazmat's point, it is like comparing apples and oranges since the two categories of schools you mentioned are so different. Perhaps specify what you mean by "better"?

My good friend everyone knows Exeter and dude where is hotchkiss, oh yeah Andover rocks too!

private day schools beat both all the way

Vincent Smith SCHOOL '08 baby...

and yeah i know u dont know the school..

IF u live in Long Island...ITS In PORT!

Where's Choate Rosemary Hall? If Lawrence is there, Choate should certainly be.

The public schools newsweek exluded (TJ tech, Bronx Science ect.) are comparable in terms of academic achievement to the best prep schools. All the ranked schools have average SATs beneath 1300 and are not in the same league.

Thats why i put this up, i was just curious. Alot of the top Public schools in that list (newsweeks) are here in San Diego County. What is really the difference in curriculum from those New England schools to these public school's on newsweeks. Are these new england schools feeder schools to the ivys just because they are close to them?

Harvard-Westlake is in SoCal. It's a feeder school to the Ivies, but it's more than 3,000 miles away. You really can't compare prep schools to public schools. They're two totally different concepts.

I went to a top public hs last year(32 on newsweek south side hs) and i know people who still go to sshs..Its a great hs..and only 2 high schools on long island had a better spot then sshs on the list and both were in great neck near where i live now
