Hi again,

Hi again,

I've been reading through some of the stats, and i'm wondering how important publications are in grad school acceptances. Is there a chance without any decent publications to good grad schools?

Absolutely, there's a chance. Research is critical and a great rec from a well known research adviser will get you far, but publications are not all that necessary. They help for sure, but adcoms understand that not all projects are equal and sometimes, some don't pan out in time. Almost all undergrad research credentials are coauthorships for gruntwork anyway, so it's not like the publication shows anything more than what topic you worked on.

Think of publications like extra credit. They can help a lot, but not having them isn't going to hurt you.

Publications can help a lot. But, many got in without any publication while very few got in without any experience or great recommendations.

I read your earlier posts .. didn't you apply this year?

No, I didn't apply this year.
