Still waiting on music…
We still haven’t gotten anything yet. I’m hoping the fact that he applied for both a music and theater scholarship is holding up the works for him a bit. Still quite optimistic he’s not going to get flat-out rejected, but would sure like the finances to work out, too. Trying to be patient. And thanks for responding, @latetgame. UPS seems to have a decent number of theater majors, so there must be a reasonably active program there, I would think.
The theater department is right next door to the admissions office, so I wandered over and talked to a few students. They were very positive about theater at UPS, and seemed to be satisfied even though the theater scene isn’t as big as the music scene on campus. A very friendly theater major (from Palo Alto) said she was going to move to a major theater city (New York? Chicago?) after graduation and did some some cool internships during college. Unfortunately, I don’t remember details.
I also have questions about the theater department. My D is interested in stage management, and is considering (and accepted at) U of Puget Sound, Willamette and Beloit. We haven’t visited any of them yet; still waiting to hear from two BFA programs before we make travel plans.
Well, he’s in! Now we await the financial stuff to come in the mail…
D was just admitted, (international applicant/OOS) now patiently waiting for the snail mail to arrive in Texas
Aha! I stand corrected – I hadn’t click on the “View Financial Aid” link. $18K Dean’s scholarship and a $4K music scholarship!! That keeps UPS very much in play for us. Woohoo!
@rayrick I have been contact with someone in FA and they told me they are having some trouble uploading amended FAFSA’s. We have our aid offer, but I was led to believe it may improve when my new info is taken into consideration. Congratulations!
Looks like music/transfer students won’t hear til end of March or early April. I don’t know if that includes all music students or just transfers…she applied back in January, so that’s feeling like a long time!
My daughter learned today that she was accepted to the Honors Program. Can anyone share information with me about that program? I only know what little I read on the UPS website. (Her financial aid offer came in the mail today as well. We are in Massachusetts.)
My D is music and she heard last week - FA offer came with acceptance. You have to go to the FA tab on the portal.
Accepted to UPS with $20,000 merit – 3.731 unweighted; 4.431 weighted; 30 ACT. Also, accepted to Willamette with $23,000. Will not be attending either one
@Reckless Did your D ever visit UPS or Beloit?
Son from New Jersey was given $18,000 per year. Had a 3.9 weighted and 1310 CR and math. We visited the school a few weeks ago and he loved it. He is choosing it over UVM, Cal Poly, University of Oregon, Exeter and Newcatle Univeristy in England and Amherst.
I would choose UPS over Amherst, too. So would my kid (who didn’t apply to any schools as selective as Amherst). But my guess is that many people reading this board would think that your son’s decision is crazy. Certainly many people in my geographic area (which is very status conscious) would think its crazy. Can you elaborate on the thinking behind his decision?
