Ive been doing negatives for like three days now. I don’t know exaclty how many i’ve been doing but it should be a lot since I do it everytime i pass by the hallway. How long before I should see any improvement? I’ve been feeling sore in my upper tricep area. Is this normal?

I would advise that you do pullup workouts every other day to let muscles heal a bit and not get to sore. Also, if you can I think it would be better to do actual pull ups in regular sets or pyramid sets if possible. Just keep with it, gains may take awhile.

I can't do any pull ups, I can only get half way, if I'm that lucky.

Yeah, negatives should help then. Also, working on auxillary muscles with curls, lat pull downs, etc. should help build strength.

Also, if you have a partner they can assist you by holding your legs or waist and lifting up just enough for you to get over the bar. But if they are having to lift you a lot then your not ready for pull ups yet. If this is the case, do lat-pull downs, rows, curls etc. and try again in a few weeks. I second what was said above about not doing it every day. Work that muscle group every other day at the most.

Keep doing those negative pull-ups...it won't be instant, but within a few weeks, you should see some definite improvement.

I started barely able to lift myself 3 or 4 inches (really bad, I know!), but I kept doing the negatives, and doing lateral pulldowns maxing out with half my weight whenever I walked by, and I saw improvement within a few weeks.

Another thing you can try if you don't have someone to help you is to work out on an assisted pullup machine. They should have one at a YMCA or some place like that. Do that and everything else said on this thread.

Get rid of the negativity. Change the phrase from "I Can't do X" To "I can Do Y and tomorrow I will do X"

It's all MENTAL.

Pain is temporary, quitting is forever.

I did negatives where I lowered myself down only part way and pulled myself back up, then did another negative. I progressed until I could lower myself all the way into a dead hang and pull myself back up.
