Purdue vs UCR

Hi

I am High school senior and trying to finalize my college but kind of stuck between Purdue and University of California- Riverside for computer Science. Any thoughts?

How hard is it to transfer from UC to UC?

Is price a concern? I side with Purdue for computer science, but I am a little biased. Have you visited the campuses?

we have visited both the campuses and liked both. Price is one of the factor meaning is it worth the money and then visit back home will be not easy from Purdue since it is middle of nowhere

Do you have direct admission to the CS major at each school?

Both do have admission-to-major requirements if you do not have direct admission, but they are not hyper-competitive like at some other schools.

I have direct admission for CS in both Universities

It’s fairly hard to transfer from one UC to another and almost impossible if it’s to the same major. You would need a really good reason as to why you need to transfer.

Remember too, that UC’s only accept transfer in the junior year,
so you’d need to spend two-years elsewhere regardless of your target UC.
The other hurdle is that CS is an impacted major at all UC’s, meaning that while a UC to UC transfer will be
difficult, actually getting into your major will make it extra tough.

What is your target UC?
You may want to check out the overall transfer requirements, as well as the major-specific requirements.
Assuming that you’re in-state for CA and you really don’t want to go to UCRiverside,
perhaps consider a CC to UC transfer.
The system favors this pathway and a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) is available at all but LA & Berkeley.

I was in the exact same boat you were in as a senior. In fact, I think my final 2 was between UCR and Purdue. I ended up going to Purdue…I think the money is worth going because there are many resources you may not know about. The CS program is Top 20 I believe. I really love Purdue; however, I don’t wanna be biased. UCR is also a really good school. If you have the money to do it, Purdue is really the way to go. It’ll be worth it.

If you’re a California resident and you got into a UC and into the CS major, then go there, as it’s likely half the costs of Purdue OOS. You’re right in the state where it’s at for CS
If you really don’t like UCR, you also have the option of finding a CC with a TAG to a UC you’re interested in.
If your parents can pay both without a worry about the price (ie.? they don’t need loans, they can pay “out of pocket” from their income and savings), then and only then keep Purdue on the table.
