Putting activities you are going to do as an EC?

Can you put things you are going to do as an EC on your Common App? I've going to be a research assistant(accepted already) at a major university next summer(2011, know the professor personally) working on some really advanced stuff with supercomputers. I would have done this sooner except that you really need to know a lot(physics, programing, calc, etc), and I was busy pretty much every summer.

Predictions about what you’re going to do in the future does not seem to me to belong in the section about ECs; those sound to me more like past or ongoing activities. I suppose others might disagree.

It would be quite advantageous to bring this up in an essay, though, explaining how your interest in the area has captivated your interest for the past few years and how its led to this great opportunity you expect to take part in next summer. Maybe you could even list it in a section of Awards and Honors, something like “accepted to the XYZ program for summer 2011”

“know the professor personally” does give me some pause. Do you mean you somehow connected with her/him, were advised what you need to do in order to take part in research, and have done that? Or does it mean that thru family or other connections this prof has agreed to take you on next summer?

no…

If you’re currently a senior applying for college, this wouldn’t be considered an EC, although you could definitely bring it up in the “Additional Information” part of your app.

no, only current things and past things

I would put it in the Awards/Honors or Additional Information sections.
