Q&A w/ current freshman.

Thanks @Ross25. I have another question. I just recently was emailed that I will be dorming in Stephenson East. Can you give me any information about it i.e how loud it is, what the dorms are like, the bathrooms, is it near the recreation center and classrooms?

I’m not sure how much you know about the residence halls here, so I don’t know if what I’m telling you is already something that you know, but just in case.

Stephenson East is part of the Stephenson Complex (North, South, East). When you come here for Alive, that’s where you stay. All three are exactly the same inside, just different communities depending on your RA and floor mates. Because it is mostly freshmen, I’ve heard it can get pretty loud, but there’s a great place to study in the basement called the Down Under. There are math and chem tutors there almost every night because of the STEM program. It’s not far from the classrooms, at least I don’t think so. I would suggest leaving 10 minutes before your class starts to get to whatever class you have on time. East is at the southside of campus and the rec is at the northside so I would say maybe a 15 to 20 minute walk. It seems far, but it’s really not. I pretty much walk that way every day. Once you get used to it, it’s nothing. You’ll have a lot of fun.

Again, thanks for answering my question. I just got back from the Alive orientation and I have to tell you that WSU looks so much better in person than on its website. The pictures on the Internet absolutely did no justice for what you will actually see. Such a big, beautiful campus with great architecture and landscaping.
The CUB is a very nice building, but it sort of reminds me of a concourse in an airport. This is also the place that they had a bunch of games and we got to win free stuff. The food at the rotunda was great and they have a large selection to pick from. The rec center looks so cool inside and I heard that the school is getting all new equipment this summer. Too bad it is so far away from the rest of the campus. I read on the wsu website that it is a half hour walk from Stephenson to the Rec Center!
At the end of our tour we got to sign up for classes. This fall I am taking anthropology 101, fine arts 101, math 201, economics 101, and gen Ed 110.
I am happy I got the opportunity to see the campus this week. Everybody should visit because it really changed my mind about wsu. You really can’t judge a book by its cover.

Glad to hear  I felt exactly the same way.

The Rec is not 30 minutes away from the plex. 20 at the most.

I have a quick question. How many guys actually go through fraternity recruitment? And would you call the selection process rigorous or not?

I saw the post in here looking for a transfer student from UW… well I’m one! I went to UW for two years and am now attending WSU as it’s more fitted for my major. I’ve just moved in but noticed a lot of differences and similarities already. :)
