For dartmouth, I'm writing my friend a peer rec...in the case that it actually turns out alright, would it be frowned upon for me to send it to schools like Princeton as a supplemental rec? Or are supplemental recs usually from coaches, summer instructors, etc?

you would have to contact those other schools. I would guess that if they cared about what a peer has to say, they would require it themselves. Best of luck in writing your peer rec (I had to write 2 this year!).

I had the same question. Assuming it is good, could it be sent to a school like princeton which allows for optional recs (From anyone who knows you well)?

Or will they instantly be like "Oh just a kid trying to get some more leverage by using something they needed for Dartmouth"

Just make sure that it actually adds something to the quality of your application, and it's good to send.

I think it would be OK to send it to Princeton, based on what they said.
