<p>You dont have to choose an integer. Choose a number between 5 and 6.</p>
<p>E.g.</p>
<p>5.5</p>
<p>5.5-1 = 4.5
10-5.5 = 4.5</p>

<p>I originally got this one wrong, but what you have to do is draw a number line, and count 5 units away from 1 and then count 5 units back from 10. You should end up at 6 counting from 1 and 5 counting back from 10. Its less than 5 units from both numbers, so 5 < x < 6. Any number outside of that range would invalidate the question’s condition that the number must be less than both 1 and 10. </p>
<p>The way in Post #2 is a lot faster, though.</p>
