quantitative finance (financial engineering)

hello, i am currently a student at james madison university thinking of majoring in quantitative finance and i was wondering if any current or previous quant finance majors could give me some insight on the curriculum? it has a rep for being the hardest major at jmu... not that im afraid of hard work but i would just like to know more about it before i declare it my major. Some reasons for choosing quant finance are i have always loved math and have been pretty strong in the subject... also i am interested in finance and economics... but also in computer programming ( i know broad range), however i hear computer programming skills will only strengthen my quant finance degree? There are only two options here at jmu... you must major in quant finance and minor in economics or double major in quant finance in math. Is there a preffered route?

Any suggestions/insight would be much appreciated!

At least masters for a job, but preferably a PhD.
